So, does this work for the AA (and other) pellets that JSB make, too?

 

Thanks for that info! My 20 tins of .20 exacts all have the same die number 36 Half made in 2014 and the others from 2015. Both shoot beautifully. Not sure how long a die lasts before quality drops off?

 

on average, based on normal production runs, the dies will last for up to 5 years. when the quality drops outside jsb standards, the dies are moved onto the '1st external customer line', and when quality drops again on this set of dies, they are moved onto the 3rd line.
basically jsb use the new dies for their 'own brand production', the 2nd rate ones for the premium external customer, and the 3rd rate ones for all others.
once a set of dies is moved along the 'lines', it is replaced by a better set. also, the consistancy of the weight of the pellet can be controlled by the speed that the machinery is run at - the pellets for jsb premium range are run at a slower speed than the standard ones.
the problem is, we dont know how long the dies have been running for, so ideally, if you get a good pellet, you need to buy as many as you possibly can (in theory, a good die set may be coming towards the end of its 'premium' life when you get a good tin).

That's great advice thanks. I have two tins of .22 JSB Exact, Jumbo Heavy. The label on the back ends in 14 and starts 35. Thanks to you I now understand what this means.
On the front of the tins is handwritten /16 in permanent ink. Do you have any ideas what this could mean? Cheers... Trotts4

its more to do with finding a die number that works in your particular barrel

very useful, I'm having a mare with 5.53 18 grain pellets.
Had a good 2016 batch but now on a 2017 batch/die that is undersized.
Catch 22, can't really afford to buy large amounts of pellets to stay in the zone but can't be doing with sampling batches and fliers when shooting at range.
Will have to start requesting die numbers when I order.

 

Might be a silly question
Is this pellet selection just for pcp or does it include springers
Having had a hw77 since 83 and never found it to be pellet fussy
But It does love copper point for hunting but I have never noticed flyers with it with any pellet and all seem to be accurate
And recently after coming back into Airguns I found that pcps are reallly fussy on pellets
Or is it my imagination that it’s just pcps

Does anyone knew which size JSB pellets would give the best velocity combined with accuracy in a newish .22 HW98? I realise that tighter pellets will be slower,and found Eley wasps 5.5mm losing 1ft lb over Crosman Accupell.I prefer the lighter pellets around 14 grains in non fac rifles.

 

Thanks for great post I now have 3000 JSB 15.89gr all from die 48 produced 2018. My gun likes them and at lest they should be consistent
