1. The Forum Rules have undergone some minor changes and updates.  Please take the time to read them; it will only take a couple of minutes of your time. By doing so, you lessen the chance of incurring the wrath of the moderation team or making yourself look foolish to other members.

90% of users posting adverts in the Sales forums need to be reminded to read the rules as their posts are wrong.  This is unnecessarily time-consuming and will no longer happen - if your advert doesn't follow the Sales Rules it will be deleted and you'll have to start all over again.

  3. Dear members,

Our membership (like our country) consists of people from all walks of life; different in far more ways than can be listed here and each with a different view based on their experience of life - regardless of their colour, religion or cultural heritage. Every single person in the UK has been born of mixed race – we are a multi-coloured and multi-cultural country.

As many of you are aware there are a handful of individuals amongst this membership that persist in making provocative, inflammatory, racist and otherwise offensive comments. This has been happening across the forum to a certain degree but is most especially prevalent in the Adult section.

The moderation team has tried to stay on top of this, however unfortunately because of the ‘offensive’ nature of much of its content we don’t monitor the Adult section quite as much as perhaps we should. As a result much of this behaviour has gone unnoticed unless it has been reported to us. While the team always intended to take a "light touch" approach to the Adult section it would seem that some people aren’t quite adult enough to be left unmonitored after all.

This behaviour is, and always has been against Forum Rules as well as the specific stipulations of the Adults forum and it will no longer be tolerated. We feel it's time to draw a line in the sand and as such from this point onward offenders will receive an immediate and permanent ban from the forum.

In order for us to achieve our goal of restoring the forum to the friendly and tolerant place it once was, we ask that ALL members be mindful of the content they post and help us to stop unacceptable behaviour by using the 'Report' tool at the bottom of any offending post - the results of which can be seen only by Admin/Moderators.

You should all receive a copy of this message by PM.

While I completely agree that fast, light, soft pellets are the most effective against quarry, accuracy is the single most important factor. That said, I've found that Bisley Super Field generally work well in old Imperial barrels...

    Oh ok.
But if the relum was made in hungary/somewhere in eastern Europe, wouldn't it be a metric barrel...??
I thought it was just us that was messing around with imperial...

    But then,
    as Manuel once said...
    'I know nooothing' :)

    Your qs.
    1st - I haven't a clue!
My LGU is a .177, the Umarex Mosquito is 7.40gr 0,48g with a flat head and thin but not soft skirt.
The same pellet in .22 is 0,83g https://www.umarex.com/products/airguns/ammunition/4.1920.html

2nd - In prectice I would expect the air pressure to start the pellet moving long before any expansion of the skirt might take effect, if that was possible, which I very much doubt.
It would take considerable air pressure to expand the skirt on any pellet as we know the 'lead', has a hardener added, similar to shotgun pellets.

You failed to mention it's a Relum. In that case try some JSB RS. I assumed you talking old BSA or Webley, not some old swamp donkey...

Actually, they're not bad guns. What lets them down is that double mainspring - work of the Devil. Find a suitable replacement - single - mainspring and the improvement has to be seen to be believed...

Double main spring; that sounds interesting, if perhaps not such a good idea.

It does have a single spring replacement.
Whilst I've had it apart for a clean and service, I
    (for its over 50th birthday)
I did consider putting twin springs back in.

When I put an order in for a washer kit I asked about the springs,
he didn't seem too concerned, said if it's easy enough to cock...
    leave it in.

Back in the day, I sorted a pal's Relum Telly. I replaced the twin job with an old Meteor spring (if memory serves). It completely transformed the rifle - easier to cock, smoother shot cycle, quieter, slight increase in power...

Did a double spring perhaps reduce the recoil; or was that their
    plan, gone wrong?

    '

I've seen this question pop up here and there before and,
tbh, I don't think anyone knows for sure what the idea was.

The twin spring makes them shoot like pigs...

Obviously the Relum design team were on too much/not enough medication..... :D

Been sending for samples a couple have been sent to me with no paper work and more annoying nothing to indicate what the pellets are, now that’s not a problem if I’d only sent for a couple of packs I could have worked out what I had and figured out which these were, but I’ve sent for loads over the last couple of weeks. So no hope of knowing what they are!!

    Hi All
I'm new here and returning to air guns after a long absence. I have been dazzled by the array of pellets available and am very happy that someone has taken the time to write this guide. Thanks
this has pointed me in the right direction

So there I was, a noob with an S400, thinking .177 was .177. Now I find out there are about four sizes of .177!

Happy to stump up for good ones; JSB exacts and AAs seem well regarded but what size?!

Just try them all and see what suits. These boxes from JSB can help....

(Look for the best grouping - pellets can be very different). B1F8658E-0481-449B-ACC9-39EA0A796665.png

The box is segmented into 8, with one empty. 50 in each in 0.177”, 30 in each in 0.22”. They fill the segments as they list on the outside of the box.

Having owned a few different guns over the years, i have concluded that every gun is slightly different and will love or hate different pellets
My bsa supersport loves rws pellets but hates Air arms domed but my diana g80 is the complete opposite i cant hit a 6” group at 30 yards with rws yet pellet on pellet with the AA domed
Both domed pellets at roughly the same grain yet completely different results, conclusion from me isn't a very helpful one but my only advice would be to try a variety and stick to what you find works
